Soo, About Religious Sites in Nepal.....
Nepal is the seat of two ancient religions of Hinduism and Buddhism. It is a place of high religious diversity boasting 2000-year-old temples spread across the Kathmandu valley in particular. In Kathmandu, there exist innumerable temples and other religious places. It is one of the main religious city in Nepal.Mostly, Hindu temples and Buddhist stupa's can be seen in the majority in Kathmandu. So, it is also known as the city of temples. As well, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur are also cities in Nepal near Kathmandu that has major religious importance. Nepal is one of the best religious destinations, especially for Hindus and Buddhist. Every year thousands of devotees from India, China, Srilanka and other countries visit here. As Nepal is diverse in religion, religious sites of all cultures are located here which in turn attract a large number of tourists and pilgrims.
The main areas where religious sites in Kathmandu are located are Basantapur and Ason. Other places also have an abundance of religious sites but these places have the most number of temples grouped together than any other place.
Some of the temples in these areas are:
-The Taleju Temple
This temple along with some others open only on the day of "Vijaya Dashmi" and remain closed rest of the year. People from all over come to visit this temple and long queues are formed just to enter the temple.
-Kaal Bhairav
This is a statue of the god "Kaal Bhairav" and is worshiped by Hindus. It is open throughout the year.
-jagannath temple: This temple is noted for the beautiful carving on its roof struts. It is one of the oldest temples in Basantapur. It was built during the rule of Mahendra Mall
a. The temple has a three-tiered platform and two storeys. There are three doors on each side, but only the center one opens.
-Kasthamandap: This temple is also one of the famous temples in Basantapur. This temple is locally known as Maru Satal. This huge temple was believed to be built by a single tree. This three storyed building has an open ground floor, underlining its original purpose as a public building.
This temple was totally destroyed during 2015 earthquake. This is the present condition of kasthamandap.
-Kumari Ghar: This temple is known as the house of living goddess. The building is known for magnificent carving as well as its divine inhabitant.
These four are some of the many religious sites present in the Basantapur area which are also some of the most common and well-known ones there.
-Patan: Patan is one of the larger city lies south of Kathmandu. Patan has the collection of Hindu, Buddhists, and Newari temples. Some of the famous temple that makes it more attracted to everyone.
So, here are some famous temples and the short description of them:
Krishna Mandir: Krishna temple is one of the most important temples in the Patan darbar square. It is built in sikhara style imported from India but is unique in its own style. It has the total of 21 golden pinnacles. It has 3 floors and each floor contain a statue of different gods and goddess.
The square is crowded with thousands of Hindu pilgrims and devotees krishnastami.
-pashupatinath: The Pashupatinath temple is the famous and sacred Hindu temple located on the bank of Bagmati river. It is the most important temple in Asia for devotees of Shiva. Every year hundreds of Hindu devotees are attracted by this temple.
The river is ghast, where the dead are burned according to their ancient tradition. Each caste has its own. It is believed that those who die in Pashupatinath temple are reborn as a human.
-Swayambunath: Swayambunath is also known as 'Monkey temple'. It lies at the top of the hill, overlooking the most of the valley. This is a good place to catch panaromic view of the city. It is one of the holiest Buddhist chaityas in nepal. This stupa is oldest of its kind in Nepal and has numerous shrines and monasteries on its premises. It was built by king Mahadev and by 13th century , Swayambhunath had developed into important center of Buddhism.
